Horned Frogs Conclude Fall Schedule

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. - TCU women's tennis ended its stretch at the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships Saturday, falling in singles and doubles action.

“I’m really proud of our effort here,” TCU head coach Jefferson Hammond said. “As upset as the players were about not winning the tournament, we actually had a strong showing.”

The No. 9 team of Macall Harkins and Anna Sydorska was downed by Notre Dame’s pairing of Kelcy Tefft and Kristy Frilling, 6-3, 6-4. The TCU duo won two matches in the tournament, defeating No. 12 Vanja Corovic and Marija Milic from Texas and Nadine Fahoum and Charleen Haarhoff of Old Dominion.

“Doubles also ran into a team that kept their unforced errors down, Macall and Anna fought hard and kept it close, but Notre Dame deserves the credit for an outstanding match.”

Junior Nina Munch-Soegaard also ended her tremendous run through the first three rounds of the singles bracket, falling to the nation’s top ranked Aurelija Miseviciute from Arkansas, 6-4, 6-1. By reaching the singles semifinals, Munch-Soegaard earned the best singles finish at the ITA Indoor Championships in TCU history. The Amarillo, Texas native earned her three wins over No. 3 Amanda McDowell of Georgia Tech, No. 30 Samantha Murray of Northwestern and No 70 Maria Sanchez from Southern California.

“In singles, Nina’s opponent did a nice job of keeping her unforced errors down and with Nina’s attacking style, it was a question of whether she would be on and she just had a tough day.”

The TCU women's tennis team has now completed the fall season and will return to action on Jan. 24, 2008 at Virginia.

TCU Pair Earns At-Large Bid to Indoors Championships

FORT WORTH, Texas – The doubles duo of Macall Harkins and Anna Sydorska received an at-large bid from the ITA to join Nina Munch-Soegaard at the National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships.

"This will be an elite group of players with everybody shooting to be known as the best," TCU head coach Jefferson Hammond said. "I am really excited about our chances. We need to stay loose and play our game."

The 2008 All-Mountain West Conference tandem will be making their second-straight appearance at the Indoor Championships, defeating Fresno Pacific's Karavayeva and Kolkotsky 8-0 and pulling the upset over Georgia Tech's third-ranked team of McCray and Miller by a score of 8-6 last year.

The senior pairing went 4-1 last week at the Wilson/ITA Southwest Regional Championships and are currently ranked ninth in the nation.

The Horned Frog trio will travel to Charlottesville, Va., for the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships held Nov. 6-9 at the University of Virginia's Boyd Tinsley Tennis Center at Boar's Head Sports Club.

TCU Announces its Athletes of the Week

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU Athletics Department selected football's Andy Dalton and tennis' Nina Munch-Soegaard its Student-Athletes of the Week for their efforts this past week for the Horned Frogs.

Dalton completed 16-of-22 passes for 334 yards and a career-high four touchdowns in a 54-7 win over Wyoming. His touchdown passes consisted of 60, 55 and 39 yards to Jimmy Young and a 1-yard scoring toss to Justin Watts. He also added a 1-yard touchdown run.

The Katy, Texas, native's 334 yards passing represented the second-best game of his career (344 yards in a win last year at Stanford). His four touchdown passes were one short of TCU's single-game record of five, and his five total touchdowns were also one shy of a Horned Frog single-game mark.

Munch-Soegaard, ranked 47th by the ITA in singles play, claimed the Wilson/ITA Southwest Regional singles title by defeating 34th ranked Taylor Ormond from Baylor, 6-0, 6-3. She went 6-0 during the tournament, defeating the 15th-, 24th- and 34th-ranked players in the nation to earn the singles crown.

The Amarillo, Texas, native solidified a spot at the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships held Nov. 6-9 at the University of Virginia's Boyd Tinsley Tennis Center at Boar's Head Sports Club. It will be her first appearance in the event and TCU's fifth straight showing.
